Liposuction

The most effective advanced body contouring solution and most popular is the liposuction. While it’s not a weight loss solution, liposuction can definitely help you to achieve an attractive and harmonised body.

Liposuction removes fat and sculpt most areas of the body. Different areas can be treated at the same time: abdomen, lower back, love handles, inner and outer thighs, upper arms and buttocks. The fat is removed from unwanted areas through multiple small 5mm incisions.

Several types of liposuction exist, Dr. Ballieux chose to work with SAFELipo which provides the most attractive, natural looking results.

Liposuction surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anaesthesia

Liposuction : the Safelipo® difference

SAFELipo is a safe and highly effective, body reshaping method that provides patients with smooth and natural-looking body contouring results.

Unlike other forms of liposuction, this procedure uses a 3-steps approach: Separation, Aspiration, Equalisation. The fat is separated before being removed and the remaining fat is smoothed out.

Women and men who are interested in traditional liposuction often are excited to learn about the benefits of the SAFELipo approach. Unlike some other forms of liposuction, the SAFELipo procedure does not generate any heat, so the risk of damaging surrounding tissue is minimized. This helps maintain a good circulation and vascularisation of the surrounding tissues and reduces internal scarring and other complications.

Benefits of the liposuction

Patients experience less bruising and swelling with the SAFELipo technique, meaning they heal faster and with less discomfort, allowing them to return to their regular activities sooner.

The fat equalization process is a major benefit of SAFELipo as it provides a smooth and harmonised result. Past forms of liposuction sometimes left patients with rippled or dimpled skin in the area where the fat was removed. The SAFELipo patients, are left with a healthy thin overlying fat layer that produces visibly smooth results.

Fat equalization is also useful in revision cases in which patients are unhappy with the results of previous liposuction procedures.

The thermal liposuction methods, such as those using laser, radiofrequency and ultrasonic energy, often caused more severe and harder-to-correct damage to the tissues. These damages are a direct result of the high levels of heat that these methods produce.

Frequently asked questions about liposuction

Following liposuction, an elastic support garment is placed on the treated areas to decrease swelling and optimize the results. Healing rates vary between individuals. Bruising and swelling are normal in the suctioned areas. The bruising will decrease over 3 – 4 weeks, but may last as long as six weeks. Pain medications and antibiotics are prescribed for the post-operative recovery period.

Lymphatic massage

Lymphatic massage begins about 1 week after surgery. This therapy is helpful in reducing the swelling.

First 1 to 2 Days

You will need a friend or family member to drive you home after surgery, to stay with you for the first 24 hours. Some temporary bruising, swelling, and numbness on treated area can be expected. You can use medication prescribed by your plastic surgeon to control discomfort, if needed.

2 to 4 Weeks

For at least 2 to 4 weeks, you will be required to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and limit any strenuous activity.

Follow-up Appointment

You will have a follow-up appointment approximately 5 days after surgery.

Return to Work

Most patients are ready to return to their everyday activities within 1 week, and physical activities are limited for one month or more.

Liposuction is a frequently performed, safe procedure. However, no surgery is completely without risks. There is a possibility of infection, bleeding, bruising, contour asymmetry, swelling or reaction to anaesthesia.

A comprehensive list of instructions for surgery preparation and post-operative care will be provided. These instructions should be followed carefully for the best possible outcome.

Certain over the counter products and prescription medicines can cause complications before and after surgery. Do not take any medication containing or related to aspirin two weeks prior to your procedure. This includes NSAID’S, anti-Inflammatory medications, blood thinning medication. Please see your doctor regarding if and when to cease medication. This is not an all-inclusive list.

Also avoid Vitamin E supplements and red wine. Stop all herbal medications before surgery. The most common herbs used are Echinacea, Ephedra, Garlic, Ginseng, Ginkgo, Kava, St. John’s Wort, and Valerian. They may adversely affect anaesthetic drugs, prolong bleeding and impair healing after surgery.

Smoking increases the risks of complications significantly and should be ceased 4 weeks prior to surgery.

The cost for liposuction procedure depends on the number of areas treated and starts from 2,500 euros.

All cost includes pre and post-operative appointment and the compression garment.
